The Allegory of the Cave

In the Allegory of the Cave, Plato describes a place where there are prisoners stuck in a cave and they are chained down and are not aloud to move even there heads. In this cave there is light from a fire behind the prisoners were the guards have all these little like props that they used to cast a shadow on the wall. They would tell the prisoners what each prop that they would cast on the wall was and explain what it did. Since the prisoners could not leave the cave they believed everything that they were told. They were like young naive little kids that didn't know any better.
I found this picture when I searched for images that resemble what heaven is suppose to look like. To me the allegory of the cave is just like the thought of heaven. Ever since I can remember I have been told if I behave one way or repent and go to church every sunday that I will get to go to heaven. Now that I am older I really look at the thought and wonder if it truly is the way they say it is. Im not saying I don't believe in it i'm just saying how does anybody really know that heaven exsits. I mean the only way to know is if you die and you cannot die and then come back and tell everyone that its there but that can never happen. So I think that the subject of heaven and everything that we learn about it is just like how the prisoners are being taught of something they know nothing about. So just like the prisoners we are young and naive and won't know the truth until we die and go to heaven or whatever really happens.

The steroype of women and their role in society

Since the beginning of man kind it has been set that the men are to be the working ones and they are the ones that protect the family and provide for the family. The women are to be at home taking care of the family, cooking and cleaning and nothing else. However, at the turn of the 19th century women have become more involved in the working industry, voting and providing what the man is supposed to provide. There is many images that portray that the man is the one out and about and the woman is at home cooking and cleaning.
However times have changed since then and the demand for more equality. Women are being respected more in the work enviornment and are being taken serious. Although there is still plenty of sterotyping of what the woman's role is, that is disappearing more and more each day.

In the world today its not unusual for you to walk outside and see posters, ads in magazines, and commercials with images of what the ideal girl is supposed to look like. Although, most of these ads are meant to be for young women, however they can capture almost any one's attention. They give a false image of an average girls appearance, as far as anyone knows this image could have been fixed to make it look like this was a real persons body. So why is it that every girl when they see a picture like this wants to achieve this look? It is impossible for everyone to make themselves look exactly this way. I think that this image or any image that resembles the perfect body is meant to target the way a person feels about their physical image. Pictures like this can have serious effects on how a person feels about themselves. A person can stop eating, become anorexic, and have serious health problems. So how can a person feel better about themselves if they can't even go less than a mile with out seeing something like this? Maybe advetisers should put up things images that emphasizes the need for people to love the skin they are in like Dove ads do. That would probable motivate people to start treating themselves better and get healthy the right way. Just because images like this are publicized does not mean the world has to be just like them.
